Nimba EcoLodge, Liberia — A Hidden Mountain Escape Worth the Journey 🌿⛰️

Tucked away in the lush highlands of northern Liberia, **Nimba EcoLodge** feels like stepping into a quieter, greener world where the air is cooler, the views stretch endlessly, and time slows down just enough to notice it. ### The Journey There 🚗 Getting to Nimba EcoLodge isn’t exactly a quick hop. It’s about a **5-hour drive from Monrovia**, winding through changing landscapes that gradually trade city noise for forest stillness. It’s not the easiest trip, but once you arrive and see the mountains roll out like a painted backdrop, the journey instantly makes sense. **Pro tip:** Don’t rush this one. Stay at least **2 nights** to really enjoy it. ### The Setting & Views 🌄 The views are the headline act here, and they absolutely deliver. Think wide, open mountain scenery that feels untouched and almost cinematic. Sunrise and sunset don’t just happen here, they *perform*. ### The Cabins 🪵 The rooms lean fully into the eco-lodge vibe. Expect: * Rustic cabins with natural wood finishes * A cozy, back-to-nature feel * Simple but comfortable design It’s not luxury in the polished, marble-and-glass sense. It’s more like **intentional simplicity**, where the surroundings do most of the talking. ### The Bathroom 🚿 Small but functional, with one key win: **Great water pressure** — which, in a remote lodge, feels like a luxury bonus. ### Activities & Experience 🌿🥾 One of the highlights of the trip was the **historic trail walk**. It’s a great way to explore the area, soak in the environment, and learn a bit about the region. Special shoutout to **Mike, the ranger guide**, who made the experience engaging and informative. Having a knowledgeable guide really elevates the whole trek. ### Service 🍽️ This is where things get a bit uneven. * Food service was **slow**, with wait times around **45–60 minutes** * Staff overall felt **undertrained and not very engaging** That said, **Ruth stood out** and provided genuinely good service. With some additional staff training and consistency, this could easily improve and match the quality of the setting. ### Final Verdict ⭐ Nimba EcoLodge is not about polish. It’s about **place**. If you’re looking for: * Stunning natural scenery * A peaceful escape from the city * A rustic, unplugged experience Then this is absolutely worth the trip. If you’re expecting: * Fast service * Highly attentive hospitality * Luxury-level amenities You may need to adjust expectations a bit. ### Would I Recommend It? Yes — without hesitation. Just go in with the right mindset: **You’re here for the mountains, the quiet, and the experience. Everything else is secondary.**

🌴 W Maldives Review (March 2026) — A Dreamy Escape with a Price Tag

There are trips you plan… and then there are trips that feel like you somehow hacked reality. Our week at the W Maldives definitely landed in the second category. 💳 Booking & What It Really Cost We booked the stay using 544,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, which covered a stay that would’ve cost around $13,000 cash. That alone felt like a win right out of the gate. But Maldives math doesn’t stop at the room: • ✈️ Seaplane transfers: ~$1,500 (round trip for two) • 🍽️ Food & drinks: ~$2,600 for the week ( we did not eat lunch most days as the breakfast was enough to fill us up. We also did not drink much alcohol.) • 🚤 Excursions: ~$1,000 • 🥐 Breakfast: Free thanks to Platinum Elite status (easily ~$1,000 in value) Even without going wild on drinks, food adds up fast. Nothing shocking here, just the Maldives being… the Maldives. 🌟 What We Loved 🤝 Service That Feels Almost Telepathic The staff here operate on another level. Not in a stiff, overly formal way, but in a “how did you remember that?” kind of way. • Everyone knew our names • Small comments turned into real experiences • I casually mentioned liking chicken dumplings… and somehow they appeared at breakfast the next day It felt less like a hotel and more like being hosted by a very attentive island family. 🏝️ Villa Upgrade = Game Changer We were upgraded from a Superior Overwater Villa to a Premier Overwater Villa. On paper, the difference sounds minor. In reality: • 🌊 Ocean-facing instead of lagoon-facing • 🤫 Much more privacy • 🌅 Better views, especially at sunset That upgrade quietly elevated the entire trip. 🤫 Peace & Quiet (Almost Too Quiet) The resort was incredibly calm during our stay. For the first few days, it genuinely felt like we had the island mostly to ourselves. This was likely influenced by global travel slowdowns at the time, but honestly… it made the experience feel even more exclusive. Toward the end of the week, things picked up slightly, but it never felt crowded. 🧖‍♂️ Spa Vibes: 10/10 The spa deserves its own spotlight. Picture ocean breezes, soft sounds of water, and that “I might fall asleep mid-treatment” level of relaxation. ⚠️ The Downsides 💸 Food Prices Can Be Eye-Opening You expect expensive… but sometimes it still surprises you. • $50 for a plate of ravioli (5 pieces) • Everything was good, just very premium priced This is one of those places where you stop converting to USD after day two for your own sanity. 📅 Limited Activities (During Our Stay) There weren’t a ton of scheduled activities, and a few that were listed didn’t always happen. This may have been due to low occupancy, but if you’re someone who wants a packed itinerary, you might find it a bit light. 🧭 Final Thoughts There’s not much bad to say here. The W Maldives delivers exactly what you hope for in a luxury island escape: • Incredible service • Stunning villas • Peaceful, secluded atmosphere Yes, it’s expensive once you factor everything in. But using 544,000 points for a $13K stay made this feel like one of those rare “travel wins” that actually lives up to the hype. ✈️ Would I Go Back? Absolutely. Next time, I’d go in with the same mindset: Use points for the room, budget realistically for everything else, and just enjoy the ride.
